Solar system Scale Model?
I need to compare the solar system with everyday objects
Ex.
Sun-hot air balloon, Saturn-basketball…….
These are always fun to do. When I taught science, I had my class go outside and make the model keeping the distances between planets in scale, too. Our sun was about 6 inches in diameter. The earth was the size of one of those round pinheads and about 40 feet away. Jupiter was about the diameter of a penny. Saturn would be just a little bit smaller than that.
On our scale it was something like 500 yards from the sun to Pluto.
I’m feeling a little bit lazy tonight and have not actually calculated these, but that’s pretty close.
