Hot Air Balloons History

Hot Air Balloons History
What were hot air ballons made of in 1880 and what did they look like?

My daughter is doing her Missouri History Project (4th grade) and she has to make a hot air balloon that is authentic to the time.
did they have a wooden basket, were they perfectly round or round at the top with a bigger opening for the fire, etc.

Is Obama being fair to his young children?

SInce they will have to learn about his presidency in their subsequent history classes: his breakthrough election, hot-air balloon peace prize, failed healthcare policy, roller-coaster descent in the polls? Shouldn’t he have waited to run untill they were old enough to discern his presidency themselves instead of at the hands of his critics?

With all due respect, I implore everyone to not involve any Political figure’s minor children in any discourse. They should be off limits. Regardless of political philosophy or Party affiliation, we need to understand that if we are to encourage the best and brightest people to serve as Political leaders, they must be confident that their families will not be adversely impacted.

If we do not respect that barrier of protection of the innocent, we will only get the kind of people who do not care about their own children. Not a particularly desirable situation for America. We should refrain from involving a politician’s spouse, too, unless that spouse injects themselves into the fray. But minor children should never be the subject of discourse.

I did not like it when some did it to Clinton’s daughter. I did not like it when some did it to Bush’s daughters. I did not like it when some did it to Palin’s daughters and I do not like it when anyone tries it with Obama’s daughters.

IMO.

Military Hot Air Balloons

trigonometric applications help?

Two military observers on an east-west highway determine that the angles of elevation to a hot air balloon are 24.5 degrees and 22 degrees. If the hot-air balloon is 1,500 feet directly above a point on the highway east of both observers, how far apart are the observers?

How do I draw the diagram and solve it?

To draw the diagram, start with point A (on the left)
and draw a line to the right (east) to point C. Then
make a right angle and draw up (north) to point D.

These three points create right triangle ACD (with C
at the right angle.

Anywhere between points A and C, place point B. This
also creates right triangle BCD (again with C at the
right angle).

Hopefully it’s obvious that point A is one observer,
point B is another observer, point D is the balloon,
and boint C is the point on the highway directly
below the balloon.

From the problem, we know that angle DBC is 24.5 degrees
and angle DAC is 22 degrees.

We are also given that the height of the balloon,
which is segment DC, is 1500.

Thus:

tan(24.5 degrees) = opposite/adjacent
tan(24.5 degrees) = DC/BC
tan(24.5 degrees) = 1500/BC
BC = 1500/tan(24.5 degrees)
BC = 1500/0.455726256
BC = 3291.45

Similarly:

tan(22.0 degrees) = DC/AC
tan(22.0 degrees) = 1500/AC
AC = 1500/tan(22.0 degrees)
AC = 1500/0.404026226
AC = 3712.63

Therefore, the distance between the observers
is the distance from point A to point B:

AB = AC – BC
AB = 3712.63 – 3291.45
AB = 421.18

Therefore, the observers are approximately
421.18 meters apart.

Hot Air Balloons Sales

Hot Air Balloons Sales
A legal question.?

A man and woman win a trip from GMC for top sales. The man owns the Chev ydealership. Part of the vacation is a ride over the desert in hot air balloon. The balloon co. Micky Mouses a repair on the burner support. When they land the burner inverts and kills both of them.
3 defendants. 1. GMC 2. Baloon company 3. Travel agency.
Plaintiffs. Parents of both parties. Daughter of man.
The ballon company fixed a broken strut with a wood pole the bought at Home Depo. It broke on landing. The pole was originally mad from high impact fiberglass.
Who do they sue? For how much? Who are the beneficiaries?

I don’t see how either GMC or the travel agency would have any responsibility for this… the baloon company is obviously at fault, and home depot may have some liability, but that is doubtful… the beneficiaries would be the surviving relatives of the people who died, and the amount would be determined by the court using a complicated formula determining what their lives were worth.
