Jackyln is an executive for one of the largest companies in the mid-West. After the recent major between another firm in the Upper East Coast of Manhattan, the CEO wanted to go national.

This meant Jacklyn and the others in the department will have to do a lot of advertising to capture the market. Since the budget for this to happen did not get any increases, this made it more challenging to accomplish the desired objective.

Driving home from work, Jacklyn saw one shop that was using an inflatable balloon. The establishment had a promotional sale and this has somehow attracted some drivers to park nearby and check it out.

Seeing the potential, Jacklyn checked and found out that inflatable balloons were quite cheap. This may not work to get the company moving so something bigger had to be needed such as a large helium balloon.

Jacklyn checked out a few suppliers and found one that could fulfill the requirements of the company. All this person had to do was submit a design so that the shop can make it and give it after 2 weeks.

Since the quote given was cheap, Jacklyn called for a meeting with everyone in the department. The objective now was to come up with a good design that has the company’s colors and logo.

After three days, everything looked ready. The approval of the CEO was the only thing left standing in the way for the project to push through.

The presentation went well and the idea was approved. This is because the cost for making one balloon is much cheaper than an ad campaign on television or on a billboard. The following week, Jacklyn went back and gave the design to the supplier.

As promised, the helium balloon was ready after two weeks. The helium powered balloon purchased measured 20 feet long that can easily be assembled and disassembled. The tanks of helium just have to be replaced to keep this object in the air.

Feeling satisfied with the results, the final payment was made and this was turned over to Jacklyn’ team who will be supervising the flights of this new toy.

The team will have to go on the road a lot to promote the new products of the company. This meant going on fairs and conventions, which made the balloon very useful to create brand awareness.

After 4 months into the new campaign, a few more balloons were ordered to make it easy for the advertising department to reach more people in other states.

How Airships Work

Most people love watching airships during their flight but rarely try to learn how these airships work or what is the force behind an airship. In this article, I have explained the procedure of how these blimps or airships work. On the other hand, some people think that the blimps generate lift just like hot air balloon. However, in reality, blimps are like hot balloons and they use gas for their lift, but the procedure is different from an ordinary air balloon. Somehow, we can relate them with airplanes because they can fly in different weather conditions and they can stay aloft for several days.

A normal blimp consists of many things to help in fly in the air including:

An envelope is a large bag that contains helium in it, which helps an airship fly. Even in the latest blimps companies have installed lights in which are specifically used for advertisements. Let’s take a look at the procedure of how airships fly in the air.

How an airship flies:

Airships use a combination of different gases in order to get lift. Mostly helium gas is used for this purpose but scientists are working on other gases to use instead of helium gas. However, the advantage of using helium gas is that it contains the capacity of 1.02 kg/m3 that helps an airship to fly easily. In early ages, hydrogen gas was used for lifting purpose, which was cheaper as compared to helium, but after the Hindenburg disaster, the hydrogen was not preferable for airships.

You might have seen an airship lifting heavy material with it because now they are also used for this purpose, but in order to lift these heavy things, normally airships use incredibly large volume of gas.

A blimp works just like the submarines in the water for their take off and landing. An airship contains a ballonet containing heavy air. Helium is a lighter gas so it is used for lifting purpose. Whenever pilots take off an airship, they open the air valves of helium that creates positive buoyancy. Whereas, on the other hand, if pilots have to land an airship they open valves of heavy air that creates negative buoyancy and the airship starts getting down. Similarly, in order to fly an airship at constant speed, pilots have to maintain neutral buoyancy that can be maintained by mixing heavy air and helium. Normally airships can cruise between 1000 ft to 7000 ft. Experts are now working on sophisticated ways for flying the blimp, with special focus on increasing the speed of these airships.

The Atlantic Challenge Took Place In 1978. After Unsuccessful Attempts By Many

The first hot air balloon took flight in 1783. The passengers were anything but ordinary – a duck, a sheep, and a rooster. They remained in the air for 15 minutes, and then crashed to the ground. Various attempts took place over the next few years from difference sources. They flight time slowly increased as changes were made to the design.

In 1785, two men flew across the English Channel in a hot air balloon. The next man who attempted this feat the same year was killed when his balloon exploded. He had experimented with a hydrogen balloon tied to a hot air balloon. Small changes continued to take place as time progressed.

The Atlantic Challenge took place in 1978. After unsuccessful attempts by many, three men successfully crossed the Atlantic Ocean in a hot air balloon. The flight took 137 hours to complete. Three years later, the Pacific Ocean was successfully crossed. That flight took 84 hours to complete.

As technology progressed, the challenge of hot air balloons took on a bigger risk. The first complete flight around the world was done in 1999. The flight lasted just short of 20 days.

Hot air balloon festivals take place throughout the world each year. The many mixtures of gas and helium allows many to float across the sky with ease. Hot air balloons of a simple balloon with a basket are a unique part of history. Now, hot air balloons come in every shape and size. Some of my favorites are the cow and the beer bottle!

Ironically, the history of the hot air balloon has come back to its roots. The first balloonists burned materials to generate heat to move the balloon. Gas and helium replaced that practice. In the past 30 years, many balloonists have chosen to burn materials in flight.
